3 Great Domestic Sparkling Wines for New Years

  • Top Pick:
  • NV Roederer Estate Brut Anderson Valley – USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (12/26/2020)
Day 1: Crisp and good acidity. Minerals, shells, lemon tart, spice and kiwi. Medium finish and complex Sparkler. Better than half of the NV Champagnes out there. 91 points
Day 2: $15.00 a bottle on sale. Wonderful nose with lemon, grapefruit, spice and floral notes. Refreshing and great acidity. 91 points
Recommendation: This is a super steal at $15.00 a bottle. (91 points)
  • Cost: $15.00. Top 10 Wine Sunday Deals.
  • NV Mumm Napa Brut Prestige – USA, California, Napa Valley (12/25/2020)
Day 2: Nice on day 2 featuring lemon, lime, dough, spice and orange peel. Refreshing and nice acidity. Best value in the Sparkling category at only $13.99 a bottle in Minneapolis! (91 points)
  • Cost: $13.97 Morelli’s St. Paul. I price match locally.
  • NV Gruet Winery Brut – USA, New Mexico (12/28/2020)
Day 1: Decant sparkler with citrus, pie crust and chalk. Short to medium finish. Certainly not something I would buy again as you can get Mumm Brut Prestige for a few more dollars and it is much better. 87 points
Day 2: Falls flat. Tastes like a cheap non alcoholic sparkler from the super market. NR
Recommendation: Not a fan. Never liked Gruet Brut. Just does not have the complexity of Mumm Brut Prestige or Roederer Anderson Valley. (87 points)
  • Price: $10.97 Morelli’s St. Paul
