  • 2023 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch – USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/14/2026)
Day 1: Diam 10. Riedel Performance Chardonnay Glass. Well the average of 90 is going up. Outstanding offering for $35.00. Oak, lemon, mango, orange peel, dust, sour apple and spices. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. Highly recommended. 93 points
Day 2: Even better with wood, sour apple, spice, floral, orange peel, dust, minerals and lemon. Medium plus finish. This is good now but will go easily through 2030. 94 points
Day 3: Holding form. How many Chardonnay’s are at this level and under $40? Not many I can think of. Orange peel, sour apple, lemon, minerals, wood, dust, spices and white flowers. Medium plus finish. 94 points
Recommendation: WTSO $36.99 is a steal with free shipping. (94 points)
  • 2021 Havens Wine Cellars Black and Blue – USA, California, Napa Valley (1/12/2026)
Day 1: One of the better $20 on the market. If you like the sweeter wines this is a perfect wine to drink that offers balance as well. Spices, cherry, plum, tart berries, coffee beans, bright floral and dark pepper. Medium finish and most satisfying. This is the perfect wine to serve at a large gathering as even the wine snobs will enjoy it. 92 points (92 points) $19.99 and on Last Chance
  • 2020 Château Ferrand – France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol (1/10/2026)
3 Day Improvements Two Months; 11/27/2025-1/12/2026: Day 1: Not one note over time and that is what this wine will need in my opinion. Red currants, licorice, gravel, earth and mint. Short to medium finish. 88 points
Day 1.5: Well predicted correctly on this wine. If you review this wine on a pop and pour you clearly will miss out on its potential. Drinking out of the Riedel Cab/Merlot performance stem and about 60 degrees. Perfect combo. Wine features Gravel, cherry, raspberries, earth, wood, licorice, floral and graphite. This has picked up a lot of weight since opening early in the day. A really well made wine. 92 points
Day 2: Give this wine some air. Left the cork off all night which I normally never do but paid off. Earth, cherry, minerals, wood, gravel, spices, floral and graphite. Much more open for business and broken record here, if you don’t like a wine on the pop and pour try it over several days and then make a final decision. 93 points
Day 3: For sure a solid wine and not the modern style many are producing now. Rustic on day 3 big time with gravel, dried flowers, earth, spice, minerals, graphite and leather. Some nice fruit as well. Medium plus finish. Excellent wine. 93 points
Recommendation: WTSO for $39.99. (93 points)
  • 2020 Château Le Pape – France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (1/9/2026)
Day 1: Natural cork. 14%. Drank out of the Cab/merlot Performance Riedel. This was great on a pop and pour. Cigar, spices, earth, cassis, blue currants, minerals and leather. Medium finish and outstanding value for $30.00. 92 points
Day 2: A little less fruit showing but still very good with earth, gravel, spices, cigar, dried flowers and leather. Some blue currants on the finish. 90 points
Day 2.5: Better later in the day with perfume, cassis, cigar, menthol, spice, earth, leather and blue currants. Medium plus finish. For sure buying more at $30. 92 points
Day 3: Really solid showing and hard to find quality in Bordeaux under $30 with shipping. Well we found it. Cigar, earth, cassis, blue currants, minerals, leather, wood and floral notes. Complex offering and would be fooled blind on this one. 93 points
    Recommendation: Highly. (93 points) $29.99
  • 2014 Château Pape Clément – France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (1/3/2026)
3 Day Improvements Two Months; 11/27/2025-1/12/2026: Day 1: Natural cork. Wow wine. Funk, cherry, menthol, cigar, gravel, minerals and blue currants. This is an amazing value purchased in 2025 for under $100 with shipping! Awesome wine. 95 points
Day 2: Funky even more than day 1. Blew off mostly 10 minutes later. Gravel, spice, cherry, blueberries, earth , cigar and menthol. Complex and medium plus finish. Like it a lot. 95 points
Day 3: Once again the patience of day 3. This is good out of the gate and showing beautifully. Cassis, blueberries, mild funk, spice, gravel, menthol, earth, minerals, lavender and baking chocolate. Super complex wine with a long life ahead. Think 2044. 96 points
Recommendation: Not many regions in the world a wine under $100 is 96 points on my rating scale. (96 points) $94.99
