World’s Worst Wine Sale Open the Cellar Napa

In what may be one of the worst times in the US Economy the Napa Valley Vintners must think the economy is booming! Even if it was booming only a fool would pay the pricing they are charging. As one of the top experts in pricing on wine in the US I am appalled at the pricing of these wines.

Their Website: Napa Valley Vintners

Wine Berserkers Thread on this topic.

SORRY THE GREAT SALE IS DONE!!! DON’T WORRY AS I DOUBT THEY SOLD ANY OF THE EXAMPLES BELOW.

Chateau Montelena

2003 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon $250 (750 ml)

Average Cellar Tracker Price: $84

Wine Searcher: $74.99 Wine Library

My take: 2003 was not even a good vintage for California Cabernet. 2004 is far superior. 3 bottles at Wine Library or 1 from the Winery?

2010 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay $75.00 (750 ml)

Cellar Tracker Average: $48

Wine Searcher: $49.99 Wine Cellar

My take: I like Montelena Chardonnay but at the normal price point there is better out there such as Anderson’s Conn Valley, Ridge, Charles Smith’s Sixto wines and Thomas Fogarty.

2016 Chimney Rock Elevage (USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District) $110

Wine Searcher: $89.99 Total Wine

My take: Actually one of the few wines not inflated!

2018 Antica (Antinori) Sauvignon Blanc (USA, California, Napa Valley, Atlas Peak) $34.00

Purchased the 2010 Napa Cabernet for less money. That is a lot for a Sauvignon Blanc.

2016 Clos du Val Cabernet Franc Hirondelle Vineyard

Who knew? A Cabernet Franc for $100. Better hurry before it is sold out.

2016 J. Davies Malbec Diamond Mountain

Just when you thought you knew a $95.00 bottle of US Malbec comes along. Can’t make this stuff up folks.

Far Niente

2003 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Cave Collection $390.00 only!

Cellar Tracker Average is $140

2002 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Cave Collection $450.00 only!

2007 Dolce Winery Late Harvest (USA, California, Napa Valley) $350

My comment: $75 was full boat on this wine. Inflated pricing at Benchmark Wine Group at $144.00 but still well below half from the winery.

MY TAKE: THIS ONE DESERVES CAPS. WHAT A JOKE! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE OF THEIR WINES AGAIN. ANYONE BUYING THESE AT THAT PRICE HAS MORE MONEY THAN SENSE.

Leap Away

1996 Frog’s Leap Rutherford (USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford) $239

Average Cost: $53

My comment: Frog’s Leap is a good not great winery from California. Their current releases are priced right but $239 for a tired old wine is ridiculous.

1991 Frog’s Leap Zinfandel (USA, California, Napa Valley) $115

My take: Zinfandel for over $100. NO!!! 85.7 average on Cellar Tracker

2010 Grgich Hills Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley)  $110

My take: One of the few that is not jacked up as online selling in similar monetary amounts. $60.00 average Cellar Tracker price.

Miner (Todd Hoffman must be the mine boss on this fool’s gold)

2010 Miner Family The Oracle (USA, California, Napa Valley) $150

My take: $87 online. Average price $80. Miner is not really on any wine geeks radar. 90.7 average for $150 means you could get a case of the Mr. B with shipping for that.

2011 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red (USA, California, Napa Valley) $225

My take: Double what it was when it came out. $124 elsewhere.

2007 Pine Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Fortis (USA, California, Napa Valley) $305

My take: What!!! $113 average price.

Revana

2009 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena) $235

My take: 91 point wine for me. Get 2 bottles from my friends at Sunfish Cellar for $120 a bottle.

2000 Spring Mountain Vineyard Elivette (USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District) $270

My take: One of the worst vintages ever! $115 average price.

As you can see this whole sale is a joke. I contact the website and they passed my displeasure on to the higher ups. This is just a joke and in bad form with the tough times we are going through. This is the time you have a sale and try and get new future customers when times get better.
