I always say there are not many good wines at $10 and that is true. However ever now and then (5 years) you come across one that is outstanding and would rival $40 bottles. This is one from Thomas Liquors in St. Paul. I emailed Nick Thomas on a Sunday morning and heard back from him in less than 2 minutes. Now one in the wine industry in MN has that type of customer service and many shops don’t even get back to you.
2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (2/4/2023) Day 1: Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo. Finally, a good wine for $10. First one since Davenport Mr. B over 3 years ago. This is better than most Reserva Rioja’s. Some funk, bright fruits featuring strawberry and raspberries. Spice, earth, floral and mint on the finish. Complex wine and would love to through this in a blind Rioja tasting of $50 bottles. 92 points Day 2: Rockstar on day 2 and value overload here. Paid less than $10 prior to tax so best wine under $10 since Davenport Mr. B. Mild funk, sour cherry, strawberry, raspberries, spice, earth, menthol, floral and a touch of mint on the finish. Even a little dill to add to the experience. Super complex wine and good acidity. A case purchase for sure!!! 92 points 13.5% Alcohol Natural cork (92 points) Cost with tax: $10.54 on a case purchase of mixed case purchase. |
I must get some.
Sounds delicious. I will pick up a few.
