Temperature Matters

The one thing I always tell wine drinkers is you are drinking your whites too cold. Not talking the cheap $15 wines but the great Rieslings, Chardonnay’s and Rhone Whites. As they warm up they get more flavorful and enjoyable. Here is the latest of this philosophy.

2021 Tan Fruit Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard
 – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills (8/23/2026)
Day 1: Glasvin Kane. Diam closure. After a week in Oregon this is a very disappointing wine purchased on auction. No not flawed just not a well made wine. Saline, water, dust, minerals and light fruit. Very simple stuff and for $55 I can do so much better. 87 points
Day 1.15: Ok in my life of doing day 2/3 and experimenting with temperature on whites this is one of the more interesting transformations. Day 1 was served around 60 which is warmer than most recommendation but I always like good Chardonnay around room temp. Ok this is a completely different wine. Went from no fruit and watered down to a beautiful offering. Citrus, wafer, exotic spices, dust, white flowers, minerals and light wood. Wow 30 minute difference of the year. 93 points
Day 2: Solid again. Lemon, saline, citrus, spices, wood, white flowers, orange peel and minerals. Medium finish and nice acidity. Excellent. 93 points
Day 3: Well 3 day wins again. Better on day 3 with apricots, lemon, spices, saline, minerals, wood, orange peel, matchstick and citrus. Medium plus finish. Love this wine and why I love the opportunity to taste over 3 days. At an event with 12 I would have given this 87 and said don’t buy. 94 points
Recommendation: Great wine and serve it warmer. (94 points)
