Nine Hats is the junior to the senior project Long Shadows. While they are about 1/3 the price point they certainly pack quality that would rival big brother in a blind tasting. I am excited to try these wines over 3 days and the sparkling was one if not the best one I tasted on this recent trip to Washington.
Tasted Friday Night at the New Vintage Event
- 2021 Long Shadows Wineries Merlot Nine Hats – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Nice wine with spice, red currants, clay, earth, cherry and spices. Balanced and great overall value. (90 pts.)

- N.V. Long Shadows Wineries Chardonnay Nine Hats Blanc de Blancs Brut – USA, Washington
Glasvin Universal. Ok this reminds me a lot of Roederer Anderson Valley Brut and that is a massive complement and about the same price point. Apple, chalk, spices, lemon, floral and dough. Medium plus finish and good acidity. A real winner in my opinion. (92 pts.)

- 2021 Long Shadows Wineries Sangiovese Nine Hats – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Actually like their second label better than the Long Shadow wines. Dialed back. Cherry, plum, spices, earth and minerals. Medium finish. Solid wine. (90 pts.)

Taste Day 2 Taste Washington Grand Tasting
- 2024 Long Shadows Wineries Chardonnay Nine Hats – USA, Washington
Glasvin Universal. The least favorite of the Nine Hats wines but still a good value. Lemon, spices, wood, floral and dust. Medium finish. (87 pts.)

- 2022 Long Shadows Wineries Cabernet Sauvignon Nine Hats – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Solid wine overall with cherry, wood, spices, plum and floral notes. Very good value indeed. (90 pts.)

- 2022 Long Shadows Wineries Malbec Nine Hats – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (3/22/2026)
Glasvin Universal. Malbecs have been the star this week for price and quality on this trip. This is very good with blueberries, spices, floral and earth. Medium finish. Need to try this over 3 days. (91 points)
