Durand Opener, Yes Please!

So when you open as many bottles of wines as I do in a year it is frustrating when the cork breaks off and then you have a huge mess on your hand. Even younger wines have cork issues hence was the case with the 2018 Muga Reserva (photo). Normally I open almost all my younger wines with a cheap waiter corkscrew but this time almost all the cork had broken off and a little was left. The Durand took care of this issue and the wine was fantastic. Here is the review:

  • 2018 Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva – Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja (6/28/2025)
Day 1: Well these are drinking well right now although still have 10 years of enjoyment. Cherry, spice, wood, dust, cigar, dried rose petals and charcoal. Medium plus finish and complex offering. 92 points
Day 2: Cherry spice, cigar, earth, minerals, rose petals, mild wood and smoke. Medium plus finish. Excellent wine for the money. 92 points
Recommendation: No brainer. Less dill/oak then your La Rioja Alta wines which I like them as well. (92 points)

While not cheap think of the $145 well spent!!! The Durand® – The Durand

    1. Jay you would be amazed how good these wines are. Never seen a Chardonnay with this expression that wasn’t over $200
