Best deal in the Twin Cities for $11.00

Thomas Liquor’s in St. Paul has some really good deals on their 20% off a case special. Mix and match and it is all good. However this is a wine you just want a case. Best $11.00 wine 2017 Anon since the 2014 Davenport Mr. B which is the best wine value called out in the last 10 plus years since the 2007 Joh. Jos. Prum wines at Big Top in 2011 for $7.00 (Of course I was the architect of both deals). Anyway buy this wine by the case purchase.

  • 2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (3/28/2023)
Day 1: Clearly don’t pay attention to the mid 80s reviews on this wine by users who can’t even post a note. Again price super deal alert. Minerals, spice, mild funk, cherry, dried flowers and earth. Super complex wine for the money and case plus purchase. 92 points (92 points)
  • 2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (3/10/2023)
Day 3: Excellent. Iron, raspberries, minerals, leather, rose petals, sour cherry and dried leaves. This is classic Rioja for a fraction of the price of the Reserva’s and beyond. One of the better values for me in the last decade.
Recommendation: Thomas Liquors in St. Paul! (92 points)
  • 2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (3/4/2023)
Day 1: Just picked up a case and these are under $11 a bottle. The best value period. Iron, raspberries, spice, leather and minerals. Fresh and good acidity. What a wonderful wine. 91 points
    Recommendation: Great value. (91 points)
  • 2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (2/6/2023)
Day 1: Not as good as the bottle on Saturday but still for $10 great everyday drinker. Raspberries, mild funk, spice, floral and dust. Medium finish. Good acidity. 90 points
Day 2: Again the saying no great wines just great bottles and this is for sure this wine. While this is worth $10 the drop off on day 2 is quite a bit and is certainly not the concentrated effort of the first bottle. Light red currants, spice, floral and a bit diluted. 84 points
Recommendation: If you can get 50% like the first or better you will win at this price point. Probably drink these on day 1 as they have shown better on the two bottles. (90 points)
  • 2017 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Crianza – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (2/4/2023)
Day 1: Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo. Finally, a good wine for $10. First one since Davenport Mr. B over 3 years ago. This is better than most Reserva Rioja’s. Some funk, bright fruits featuring strawberry and raspberries. Spice, earth, floral and mint on the finish. Complex wine and would love to through this in a blind Rioja tasting of $50 bottles. 92 points
Day 2: Rockstar on day 2 and value overload here. Paid less than $10 prior to tax so best wine under $10 since Davenport Mr. B. Mild funk, sour cherry, strawberry, raspberries, spice, earth, menthol, floral and a touch of mint on the finish. Even a little dill to add to the experience. Super complex wine and good acidity. A case purchase for sure!!! 92 points
