3 Most Buys at Liquor Boy, St. Louis Park

I will be the first to admit I don’t shop at Liquor Boy and find their prices a bit high and selection not up to my standards. However went in for the Roederer Estate Brut for $16.99 and found 2 more worthy wines.

  • NV Roederer Estate Brut Anderson Valley – USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (12/9/2021)
Day 2 review: Solid and amazing value. Sour apple, tropical fruit, shells, lemon, minerals and pie crust. Refreshing and sharp acidity. Better than almost all NV Champagnes including those fashionable Grower Champagnes. (92 points)
$16.99
  • 2018 Marietta Cellars Christo – USA, California, Sonoma County (10/15/2021)
Day 1: What a difference the vintage makes. The 2017 Christo is in the category for worst wine of the year but this wine on a pop and pour is delicious. Dark purple. Dark chocolate, blackberries, plum, spices, coffee beans and minerals. In your face wine done right. Medium to long finish and just tasty. Excellent QPR. 92 points
Day 2: Less intensity but still very nice. Underbrush, pepper, blackberries, spice and minerals. I like this wine much better on the pop and pour. This wine is ready to drink now. 90 points
Day 3: Again lost some of the luster of day 1. While young this wine should be consumed within the next five years.
Recommendation: Buy and pop, pour and enjoy. Drink 2021 to 2026. (92 points)

Well two out of three ain’t bad! The 2017 Argyle is one of the worst sparkling wines I have tasted in a long time.

2017 Argyle Vintage Brut (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley) $19.99 Will try soon.

  • 2017 Argyle Vintage Brut – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/18/2021)
Day 1: Average sparkler at best. Not even close to the level of the recent NV Roederer Anderson Valley Brut. Lemon, dust and spice. Really boring. Plenty of bubbles and not corked just about as good as Cook’s. As a big fan of Argyle really disappointed.
2nd glass no better. This is a real disappointment.
Day 2: Burnt toast, some lemon and spices. Very boring effort.
Recommendation: There are no flaws such as corked, flat, etc. Buy one bottle if you normally have been pleased with this in the past. The 2017 is not good! (82 points)
