As the only wine educator promoting the best wine deals in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the Metro I take great pride and care in selecting the best shops to promote. While some shops focus more on customer service, a fancy storefront or hard to find selections, I am looking simply at quality wine at the best prices in the nation. If I am missing a wine shop to promote please contact me to discuss featuring them on my site.
2025
Well it has been a while since I really promoted wine shop sales in the Twin Cities but Sunfish Cellars in Lilydale are doing some cool deals with if you pay cash the cost is $4 more than their cost. Here are some clear examples of the great pricing and also check out my blog post on must have wines including the 2024 3 Day Wine Review 2nd best of the year under $100.
- 2021 Idda Etna Rosso – Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC (2/8/2025)
Day 1: Michael Miller at Sunfish Cellars recommended this wine and at a great price to boot. Outstanding and will be going back for more. Light color but don’t let that fool you. Very flavorful with dried cherry, mild spice, floral, minerals, rust, earth and bramble. Medium plus finish and the tracker average right now is really accurate on this wine. Beautiful. 94 points
Day 2: Beautiful wine with perfume, sour cherry, a touch of spice, floral, clay, rust, earth and bramble. Nice acidity and a pretty wine. Medium plus finish. 94 points (94 points) - 2019 Monte Zovo Amarone della Valpolicella – Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella (2/8/2025)
Dried cherries, floral, mild spice, earth and dusty finish. Medium finish. Nice wine. (92 points) - 2017 Bodegas Valdemar Rioja Conde de Valdemar Reserva – Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja (2/8/2025)
New oak with dark fruits, spice, blueberries, dust and floral notes. Medium finish. Young but long term potential. 91+ (91 points) - 2018 Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (2/2/2025)
Day 1: Natural cork. Very solid value from WTSO for $29.99 a bottle. Pencil lead, blueberries, cherry, mild spice, wood, minerals and earth. Very balanced and drinking really well on the pop and pour. For sure another purchase of a six pack on this one. 92 points
Day 2: Has not lost a beat. Very concentrated wine with wood, menthol, pencil lead, cherry, blueberries and minerals. While not going to be fooled blind as a Bordeaux it does have some nice elements. Medium finish. 92 points
Day 3: The best of the 3. Earth, cigar, spice, wood, menthol, dust, cherry and blueberries. A wonderful effort from WTSO. 93 points
Recommendation: WTSO $29.99. (93 points)
