So I am one of the biggest promoters of how great Walla Walla Wines are. Not sure anyone is even close on the world scene. Well 2020 is a hit or miss for Walla Walla. Some should have not made wine in that vintage and I will say Bledsoe 2020 Cab was drinkable on a pop and pour so yes I am fine with their creation of this wine. My advice is drink immediately as the smoke taint will only consume the wine more. Here is the comparison of the 2019 and 2020 vintage.
- 2019 Bledsoe Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (12/1/2024)
Day 1: Natural cork and 14.7 alcohol. A bit tight but promising featuring cherry, blueberries, minerals, mild oak, spice and bitter chocolate. Medium plus finish. 91 points
Day 2: Nice improvement with cassis, blueberries, spice, floral, earth, iron, mild oak and dark chocolate. Medium plus finish and nice concentration on this wine. A real stellar effort. 93 points
Day 3: Excellent with cassis, blueberries, sour cherry, mild oak, spice, dark chocolate, minerals and floral notes. Complex wine and medium plus finish. Shows just a touch of heat otherwise excellent. 93 points
Recommendation: Wonderful offering and if you can get on auction under $50 a great value.
75% Cabernet Sauvignon 13% Merlot 11% Malbec 1% Cabernet Franc (93 points) - 2020 Bledsoe Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (11/26/2024)
Day 1: Natural cork. 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot. Mild smoke taint on this one but not impacting the overall experience. Cherry, dust, oak, vanilla, spice and dark chocolate. Enjoyable wine overall with a medium finish. 90 points
Decanter joke at 97
Day 2: Well, the smoke taint is more apparent just like any flaw would be on day 2. Charcoal, muted fruits, spice, a bit of heat, ash and dried twigs. There is a harshness to the wine that should normally be bursting with fruit. While more drinkable than the two recent K wines that were really tainted this still is not enjoyable on day 2. 82 points
Day 3: Burnt toast, ash, smoke, spice and muted fruits. For sure another smoke taint wine. 70 points
Day 4: That fruit wants to sneak through but just not happening. The 2021 is excellent so go with that vintage.
Recommendation: Easy pass and buy a different vintage of their wines. If already purchase drink on a pop and pour. (90 points)
