As the first person in the world to do the 3 Day Wine Experience I take great pride in what I do. While most critics just do a quick taste of the wine and through out a 94 point score, I actually have the patience to see what the future of each wine I drink will hold. This wine is a true definition of 3 Day Wine Review. Day 2 and 3 were bad but day 3.5 changed my opinion on the age ability of the wine.
Funny thing is that Haskell’s (who has not had a good wine sale in 5 plus years) had the regular 2012 CDP for the same price I paid at WineStreet in North Oaks. $42.99.
- 2012 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (5/14/2021)
Day 1: Pop and pour. Rustic wine featuring iron, roasted meats, pepper corn, sage and floral notes. A bit tight but very flavorful wine. Will let it get some air and revisit.
Day 1.5: This is some serious old school CDP. Wish I bought more of this wine. Iron, earth, roasted meats, exotic spices, floral, raspberries and pepper corn. 93 points
Day 2: Not as good as day 1 so based on that maybe an hour decant and enjoy but will check back on day 3. Day 2 features more spice, raspberries, black pepper and earth. It is good but just lost the excitment of day 1. 89 points
Day 3: Getting similar results as day 2 but more heat. Should have drank this on day 1.
Day 3.5: Wow has this changed for the better. It is amazing how wine changes over time. Floral, spice, soy sauce, raspberries, minerals and pepper. Wonderful balance and medium plus finish. While not as good as day 1 it is amazing. 92 points
Recommendation: A roller coaster of a day 3 experience. Should drink well for a while. (93 points)
