Surdyk’s Spring Sale 2022

Not nearly as good as the spring sale but certainly some good buys available.

  • 2019 DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (10/8/2021)
Day 1: Stones, lemon rind, orange peel, spice, minerals and floral notes. Medium to long finish nice acidity. This is a back the truck up wine. 94 points
Day 2: Still vibrant. Amazing how good this is and not even two years in bottle. Floral, white peaches, lemon rind, orange peel, mild spice and minerals. What a refreshing wine on an 80 degree, October day in MN. 93 points
Day 3: Certainly not as good as day 1 or 2. Not surprised.
Recommendation: Drink now to 2028. This is an absolute Rockstar wine on sale for $23.99. (94 points) $23.99 (By far the best wine on this sale)

2020 Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (11/10/2021)

Day 1: Raspberries, pepper, spices, floral and perfume. Pleasant wine and great value as always. This bottle is open for business on a pop and pour. 89 points

Day 2: Better. More fragrant and fruit is more present featuring raspberries, strawberries and cherry. Picks up spice, floral and pepper on the finish. Need to grab a case of these great everyday drinkers. 90+ points

Day 3: Really nice on day 3. Pepper, floral, raspberries, cherry, spice and stone. This wine is a tremendous value and will age for five/seven years without a doubt. 91 points

Recommendation: You can enjoy this now but drink it on day 2/3 and be amazed. (91 points) Second best wine on this sale for the money. $15

2018 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Nahe) 18 buy $22.49

2016 Andrew Will Sorella Champoux Vineyard – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills (1/29/2022)
Twin Cities Wine Club Rides Again: Washington State (Edina, MN): Holly Sh..! Wine of the year candidate in January. High octane in a good way (Think Shafer Hillside). If this was Napa it would be $250. Blueberries, cherry, coffee beans, minerals and spices. Long finish and intense wine. Landslide wine of the night!
4 hour decant! (Natural cork) (95 points)

  • 2018 Château Mongravey – France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (3/5/2022)
Day 1: Light style Bordeaux with chestnuts, sour cherry, spice, gravel and damp earth. A simple but well made wine. Nothing to get over excited about. 88 points
Day 2: I have had this wine form previous vintages and disappointed I am. This features Christmas spices, chestnuts, muted fruit, mild spice and a thin finish. Serious lack of complexity for the price point and based on day 2 not sure this will age well. 87 points
Day 2.5: Again why I do 3 day wine review. Amazing difference on this wine than earlier in the day. More concentrated and will see what this does on day 3. Not 98 as one reviewer suggested (James Suckling on steroids). More concentrated featuring Christmas spices, minerals, cherry, plum, chestnuts, gravel and blueberries. Medium plus finish and good acidity. 91 points
Dau 3: Wow this is a nice surprise and transformation for sure. Gravel, cherry, plum, minerals, spice, tobacco, spices and earth. Really a nice transformation and I love to see an initial impression proven wrong. 92 points
Recommendation: Well this is a nice surprise. Went from ok to really great value and age this up to a decade. Buy. (92 points)

2 Other really nice Bordeaux Deals

2014 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe) $120

2008 Château Pape Clément (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan) $99

Not worth $30 and disappointed. This will not be a long term ager.
