Ridge Tasting with Sunfish Cellars

From their site:

“We hope you will join us at 6:30 on Thursday, February 25th, for our tasting with David Gates, the Senior Vice President of Vineyard Operations at Ridge Vineyards. In 1962, Ridge made its first Monte Bello and two years later its first zinfandel. Since that time, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare and exceptional vineyards where climate, soil, and variety are ideally matched. Long time president and winemaker Paul Draper is one of the pioneers of single vineyard, high-quality Zinfandel and David Gates continues his legacy.

Thursday’s tasting will include, in this order:

2018 Ridge Petite Sirah Lytton Estate, $37.99

Containing 3% Zinfandel, the 2018 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate has luscious aromas of cassis and blue fruits, turned earth, coffee, and aniseed. The palate is full, concentrated and firm but offers great freshness and fruit detail in the mouth and it finishes very long and layered. It’s approachable now if you love a big red but it will also age well in the cellar.

2018 Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel, $37.99

The 2018 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch, blended with 9% Alicante Bouschet and 7% Petite Sirah, is deeply scented with earth-laced blue and black berries and notes of licorice and dried herbs. The palate offers concentrated fruits knit by grainy tannins and surprising uplift, and it finishes long and layered. This is youthfully wound and will have even more to offer with time in bottle.

Purchase the Pagani Ranch Zinfandel here:

2018 Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel, $42.99

The 2018 Lytton Springs is a blend of 72% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignane, and 2% Mataro. The nose is lush and open with aromas of aniseed, red and blue berries, blood orange, and earth plus touches of tobacco leaf and dried flowers. The medium-bodied palate combines intense, powerful flavors with a more ethereal, silty structure and it finishes with loads of juicy layers. It’s stunning straight from the bottle but will have more to give with time in the cellar.
