My First Official Wine Club- Result of Crush Walla Walla

The biggest reasons I have never joined a wine club are the following:

  1. Don’t want to be locked into wines every year due to varying vintage conditions.
  2. I want to pick what I want instead of settling on half of the wines I might not want to drink.
  3. I like to try ONE bottle and then decide to buy more.
  4. Shipping costs. Some of the wine clubs make a nice profit off of shipping you wines.
  5. Cost. Unless it is winery only I can usually beat the cost from the winery by 25% of more.

After visiting Result of Crush in downtown Walla Walla this past summer I was impressed with the quality of their wines for under $30. The fruit is the same fruit that goes into their more expensive Reynvaan wines. They way they explained it was if this barrel is not near perfection it goes into the lesser expensive Result of Crush wines.

The Wine Club

When looking to buy some wines I reached out to them and was amazed at the free shipping offer if you join the 12 Bottle Club. They send a case in the fall and a case in the spring plus you get 20% off all orders. While you don’t get to pick what wines are in the case I can assure that they will all be good. Once you sign up then you can pick and choose wines after that with the 20% discount and free shipping on a case. $22.60 per bottle and I have sampled few if any in the past year at that level. For those that live in Walla Walla you also get complementary tastings.

I sampled the following wines on my trip this past summer and this was the only winery visit to feature all wines over 90 points.

Day 2: Gravel, minerals, cherry, raspberries, rose petals, earth and graphite. Good use of oak and complex offering for the price. Top 10 wine for sure in the under $30 but might make it in general. 93 points (93 points)

  • 2017 Result of Crush The Unnamed Series Syrah (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley) (7/17/2022)
Day 1: This is as good as it gets for Washington State Syrah under $30. Meet with them on Friday and this is not a declassified wine from Reynvaan but barrels that are not quite good enough for their label. Rocks funk. floral, black olives, stone and earth. Super complex wine and long finish. $28 full retail. Wow! 93 points
Day 2: This is off the charts good. The dry weather in Walla Walla was messing with my nose but this cleared that up. Super fragrant with rocks funk, pepper, floral, black olives, red currants and earth. Super complex wine for under $30. 93 points
Recommendation: Get two cases as you will be mad you only bought one. (93 points)

2017 Result of a Crush Syrah The Unnamed Series
 – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (11/4/2022)
Day 1: Exotic spices, sweet bell peppers, black pepper, earth, black olives, tar and roasted meats. Outstanding on the pop and pour and super complex wine. As good as the last bottle. 93 points
Day 2: This is the closest to an actually Reynvaan wine you can get without spending $75. Very few would know the difference in a blind tasting. Black olives, spices, tar, roasted meats, violets, earth and stone. Concentrated wine with a really long finish. Complexity overload for $25. 94+ points (94 points)

  • 2018 Result of a Crush Syrah The Unnamed Series – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (10/21/2022)
Day 1: This is singing and just off the UPS truck. It is a myth that wines need time from transited. Older bottles or Champagnes yes but newer bottles with over 100 notes and then 100 later no worries on these younger wines. Medium purple. This is complex like the bigger brother Reynvaan wines and for $25 a bottle one of the top wines of the year for the money. Black olives, dust, white pepper, spice, minerals, roasted meats and red currants. Medium to long finish and complexity is off the charts. 93 points
Day 2: This is not as good but solid on day 2. Green olives, dust, minerals, earth, white pepper and red currants. Not as intense as day 1 but not complaining. 91 points
Day 3: So, this is off the charts on day 3. Even better than day 1. Black olives, spice, roasted meat, stone, red currants, minerals, graphite and spices. Medium plus finish. No wine this year under $25 is on this level. Classic this wine is under $30 so it can’t be this good. Wrong! Might be my wine of the year candidate. 94 points
Recommendation: I am buying a case of this and will regret promoting this as I will want more cases down the road. (94 points)
Retail: $28.00

  • 2019 Result of a Crush Syrah The Unnamed Series – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (10/21/2022)
Day 1: 100% Syrah. Unique nose of matchstick, charcoal, green olive, black pepper, dust, blue fruits and exotic spices. This is amazing stuff. Complex and long finish. I am thinking 1/3 of my cellar will be Result of Crush Unnamed Series wines very quickly. Thanks to Trevor M. for suggesting a tasting room visit. 92+ points
Day 2: Holding up on day 2 better than the 18. Matchstick, charcoal, green olive, black pepper, dark fruits, spices and tar. This is concentrated wine more similar to an Aussie Shiraz than the elegance of Reynvaan. I like both styles and this should drink well for another decade. 92+ points
Recommendation: Drink now to 2032. (92 points)
  • 2019 Result of a Crush Syrah The Unnamed Series – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (11/3/2022)
  • Day 1: Rock on with this wine. Green olives, spice, strawberry, stone, white pepper and savory roasted meats. Medium plus finish. The complexity for a $25 wine is overwhelming. 93 points
  • Day 2: Stone, green olives, spice, dust, roasted meats, floral and earth. Super complex effort and amazing these wines are $25. Buy! 92 points
  • Day 3: Not as good as day 1 but still solid. Pepper, green olives, strawberry, spice, roasted peppers and earth. Even on day 3 a stellar price but day 1 wins. 90 points
  • Recommendation: Pop and pour and enjoy on day 1. This will drink well through 2030 and some aging will be recommended. (93 points)

  • 2015 Result of a Crush Red Wine – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (11/10/2022)
Day 1: Of all the Result of a Crush Wines I have sampled this is the most balanced and approachable. Pepper, iodine, red currants, minerals, spice and tar. Good acidity and medium plus finish. No one is guessing $25 a bottle on this. Amazing. 93 points
Day 2: Reynvaan written all over this wine. Green olives, spice, tar, minerals, black pepper, underbrush and violets. Medium plus finish and super concentrated wine. Drinking really well on day 2. 93.5 points
Recommendation: Buy! $25 a bottle and this has another 5 plus years of pure enjoyment. (93 points)

$28.00 retail

  • 2020 Result of a Crush Christmas Cuvée – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (10/22/2022)
Day 1: This wine has opened up over the last hour. Mint, spices, graphite, smoke, raspberries, stone and pepper. Medium plus finish. This will improve on day 2 no doubt. 90 points
Day 2: Funk, mushrooms, spice, smoke, pepper, graphite and stone. This is a wonderful improvement from day 1 and quite complex. Outstanding. 92 points
Day 3: More mellow then day 1 and 2 but still excellent. Black olives, white pepper, spice, red currants, smoke, mild funk and tar. Medium finish. 92 points
Recommendation: Can’t believe these are under $25 shipped to my door. (92 points)
Not the best wine but for $25 a solid

  1. Nice article John. Nice to see someone in the Twin Cities who understands good wine doesn’t have to cost a lot.
