Big Table Farm “Amazing Wines”

Over the past year I was really introduced to the high quality wines Big Table Farm is producing. In 2019 I had tasted the 2017 Pinot at a walkaround tasting which I liked but these wines are not meant to taste like that. It is a testament to their wine making as these wines improve over 3 days which is the hallmark of a wine that has aging potential. The Pinot Noir for sure is a top 10 candidate. Sunfish Cellars is offering the 2021 Big Table Farm Chardonnay for $33.00 with tax which is amazing. This is their new promotion where they are offering most of their wines about $4 above cost. Stock up before it is gone! They also have the 2021 Pinot Noir but not sure on the price but lower than what it is listed on their website.

The Reviews:

  • 2021 Big Table Farm Chardonnay The Wild Bee – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (9/30/2024)
Day 1: Passive cellar temp and diam closure. Just getting lectured by someone to serve white wine between 45/55. What a joke as good wine should never be served that cold. Wonderful wine with a touch of honey, minerals, spice, lemon, lime and orange peel. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. A true bargain under $35.00. 93 points
Day 2: Wow a bit better with lemon, white flowers, touch of honey, spice, lime and orange peel. Medium finish and nice acidity. 93+ points
Recommendation: Easy buy and better than almost any Chardonnay for under $35.00. (93 points)
  • 2021 Big Table Farm Chardonnay The Wild Bee – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (7/6/2024)
Day 1: So good and better than 95% of of Chardonnay producers from America and this was $33 with tax. Slate, lemon, sour apple, chalk, floral and orange blossom. Just a wonderful effort.
Day 3: Still signing with slate, lemon, a touch of honey, chalk, orange blossom and tropical fruit. Super complex and tasty. Nice acidity. 93+ points
Recommendation: Not many better for $33 with tax. (93 points)
  • 2021 Big Table Farm Chardonnay The Wild Bee – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (3/8/2024)
Day 1: Diam closure. This is an amazing wine. Honeysuckles, lemon zest, stone, Carmel, subtle oak and spices. Very clean and complex wine with perfect balance. Nice acidity. A true gem.92+ points
Day 2: This is even better. Amazing effort and for $33 can’t beat the price. Subtle oak, lemon zest, orange peel, spices, stone, tropical fruit and minerals. Medium finish and nice acidity. Excellent. 94 points
Day 3: Holding the form of day 2 and at this price will be purchasing more. 94 points
Recommendation: Easy Twin Cities purchase. (94 points)

The 2022 Wild Bee is equally as amazing as the 2021. The interesting thing about these Chardonnay’s is I drink them closer to room temperature as they express even more aromatics and the taste is off the charts.

  • 2022 Big Table Farm Chardonnay The Wild Bee – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (10/30/2024)
Day 1: Wonderful expression of Chardonnay and a bit bolder than the 2021. Honey, spices, dust, sour apple, kiwi, minerals and floral notes. Complex and medium plus finish. Love the Chardonnay’s from Big Table. 93 points
Day 2: Laser focused acidity with stone, honey, spices, sour apple, dust, tropical fruit and spices. Super complex wine and medium plus finish. 94 points
Day 3: Has lost nothing and maybe a touch better. All of these days have been at almost room temperature, and you will experience maximized enjoyment. Honey, spice, sour apple, dust, floral, lemon, stone and slate. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. A winner. 94 points
Recommendation: These are beautiful wines from Big Table and highly recommended. (94 points)

The 2022 Pinot Noir will age for at least 10 years.

  • 2022 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir Willamette Valley – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (10/23/2024)
Day 1: Composite cork. Second glass and this is much better. A savory wine featuring soy, spice, rose petals, sour cherry, strawberries and minerals. Very nice base bottle from an up-and-coming producer in Willamette. Nice acidity and medium finish. 92 points
Day 2: Developing nicely with strawberries and raspberries and sour cherry. Nice fruit on this wine. Earth, soy, rose petals, mild spices and earth. Complex wine and medium plus finish. Nice acidity. 92 points
Day 3: This wine is really coming together and lost some of the more intense fruit of the first two days. Earth, mushrooms, soy, mild spices, strawberry, sour cherry and floral notes. Really nice finish and smooth wine overall on day 3. Will check it out on day 4. 93+ points
Day 4: Wow!!! What a beautiful transformation on this wine. Day one and two offered more intense fruit but by day 4 getting cranberries, sour cherry and raspberries. Violets, minerals, exotic spices and mushrooms. A beautiful wine and medium plus finish. Nice acidity. 94 points
Recommendation: This wine should do well in the cellar for 3 to 5 years but if you are drinking now do a 4 hour decant. (94 points)

Age worthy Pinot

The Syrah was interesting on day 1 and I did not score as this wine was not ready. Interesting that other wine reviewers just score on day 1. A flawed system.

2021 Big Table Farm Syrah Funk Estate Vineyard
 – USA, Oregon, The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater (10/26/2024)
Day 1: This is a bit tight but what would you expect from a wine of this caliber from a vineyard of this caliber. Will be doing the full 4 day review on this one. Black pepper, spice, blackberries, coffee beans, dust, minerals and black olives. Everything is here to blossom in a few days. No score.
Day 2: A perfect example of a wine that needed time to open up. Roasted meats, black pepper, spices, dark fruits, tar, earth and minerals. Picks up some nice smoky notes on the finish. Long finish and concentrated wine that will be rewarded with some cellar time. 94 points
Day 3: Smoked brisket, black pepper, blackberries, tar, minerals, earth and dust. Medium plus finish. 94 points
Day 4: Like the Pinot just sampled this is rocking on day 4 and has a long life ahead. Black pepper, spice, dust, smoked brisket, raspberries, blackberries, smoke and tar. Concentrated wine and long finish. An outstanding effort. 94+ points
Recommendation: This is for sure more Aussie Shiraz for me than your typical Rocks Syrah. Big, bold and powerful. Enjoy. (94 points)

This needs time!

If you have not tried Big Table Farm wines I highly recommend them and they are not the cheapest but totally worth the cost.
