A wonderful experience at Mathews Cellars Woodinville Tasting room. While the wines are not cheap they deliver and have long term aging potential. The tasting room is very quaint but the attention to detail was excellent. Glasvin Universal on all the notes.

- 2024 Matthews Reserve Cuvée Blanc – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. 50% Sémillon, 31% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% Muscadelle. For sure on the young side. Oak is a little over powering but great potential. White flowers, tropic fruit, lemon and spice. Medium finish. Drink after 2029. 90 to 93 points. (90 pts.)

- 2022 Matthews Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Columbia Valley – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Rich wine with lemon, floral, spices, minerals and tropical fruit. Medium finish. (92 pts.)

Sparkling & Rose
Sparkling was one of the better one’s from Washington but the Rose was boring.
- 2024 Jaine Grenache Rosé Thunderstone – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Royal Slope
Glasvin Universal. Ok at best with grapefruit, lemon and spice. Short finish and not making my top five Roses in Washington. (82 pts.)

- 2022 Jaine Blanc de Blanc – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Wahluke Slope
Glasvin Universal. Orange peel, pear, minerals, lemon and spices. Medium finish and very nice sparkling wine. (92 pts.)

Blends
All outstanding and the 22 was opened on day 3 and made a huge difference.
- 2021 Matthews Claret – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Not as good as the 2022 right now but very good. Spices, dark chocolate, flowers, wood and minerals. Hold this for a few years people. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot. (92 pts.)

- 2022 Matthews Claret – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Wow! They saved this for me on the day 3 review. This is an amazing wine and order a case. 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc & 3% Malbec. Cherry, cassis, spices, dark chocolate, earth, vanilla and minerals. Medium plus finish. (94 pts.)

- 2019 Matthews Cuvée Royal Slope – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Royal Slope
Glasvin Universal. Very good with cherry, plum, spices, minerals and earth. Medium finish. 54% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc. (92 pts.)
Other Reds
The Malbec was the best I have tasted from Washington.
- 2019 Tenor Malbec – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd best Malbec from Washington I have ever tasted. Black currants, floral, perfume, spices, cherry and dust. Medium plus finish. Loved it! (94 pts.)

- 2022 Tenor Syrah Lawrence Scarline Vineyard + Va Piano Vineyard – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Well I would say this is a bit over the top in style. Napa Cult wine lovers will love this wine. 100% French Oak. Black currants, black pepper, oak, vanilla and spices. Hold this until 2030. (91 pts.)

Merlot & Cabernet
All very good and need some cellaring.
- 2019 Matthews Merlot Reserve – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. 97% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Saddle wood, cassis, cherry, spices, earth, gravel and tobacco. Medium finish. 92+ (92 pts.)

- 2021 Matthews Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Glasvin Universal. Red currants, spices, chocolate, minerals, wood and floral notes. Very nice wines and should improve over time. (92 pts.)

- 2019 Tenor Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington
Glasvin Universal. My favorite wine at the Mathews tasting as it was the most open for business. Dust, coffee beans, wood, plum, earth cassis. Medium plus finish. Drinking great right now. (95 pts.)
