Another great event at Amy and Scott’s. Tons of food and great conversation. Love the Blind Format as discussing wines is a great way to learn about them.
CellarTracker! $100 Plus Cabernet Tasting
Well some fun wines tonight. My wine of the night was the 2010 Croze which Tom Brought. Icon Napa wine. All of the wines got 3 points or more which never happens.
3 points for first
2 points for second
1 point for third
2016 Raymond: 11 points
2017 Quilt 10 points
2010 Croze 9 points
All others 3 points
- 2015 DuMOL Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard – USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
By far the best wine of the night for the money. $15.00 for this. Everyone loved it. Rich with orange peel, spices, lemon, Carmel, wood, dust and floral notes. Medium plus finish. Outstanding wine. (95 pts.) - 2014 Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Bartolucci – USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena
Glasvin Kane. Very interesting wine with Cassis, coffee beans, menthol, cherry, boysenberries, Eucalyptus and spices. This screamed Aussie Cab blind but ended up Napa. Nice wine and should age for a while
3 points (92 pts.) - 2017 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Annum – USA, California, Napa Valley
Ramey Cabs underwhelm for me. Overpriced for sure. Sweeter fruits, cherry, plum, spices, dust and earth. My least favorite in the lineup. (90 pts.) - 2016 Raymond Generations – USA, California, Napa Valley
My second favorite on the blind tonight and groups number one. Clearly Napa with cherry, leather, baking chocolate, spices, Cassis, plum and menthol. Very nice wine overall.
11 points and first place. (95 pts.) - 2022 Viña Almaviva S.A. Almaviva – Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto
Classic example if this was over 3 days would have been better. For sure using American Oak and getting that dill which soften over time. Spices, blueberries, floral, earth and dust. Cellar this until 2030 or try over 3 days as way too young. (92 pts.) - 2015 Sherwin Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Spring Mountain District – USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Well had this at third place overall. Good wine with coffee beans, blueberries, minerals, sour cherry, dust and earth. Balanced offering and lighter side of wines tonight. Good but would not buy again over $100. (93 pts.) - 2010 Croze Cabernet Sauvignon XV Anniversary Cuvée – USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Icon wine and thanks to Tom and Bruna for bringing. A historic wine for me as we poured this when my dad’s house sold over a long ordeal. Wow wine blind. Menthol, spices, Cassis, cherry, plum, earth, cigar and floral notes. Super complex and my wine of the night. (96 pts.) - 2017 Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – USA, California, Napa Valley
Why I like blind. This is not a fruit bomb like some of the Quilt wines and finished second of the night. Not in my top five of seven but others like it better. Plum, cedar, spices, cherry and dark chocolate. Big fruit but not over the top. Very enjoyable effort. (92 pts.) - 2010 Château Rieussec – France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Very nice showing and great way to end the evening. Apricots, ripe peaches, honey, spice, floral orange peel. Medium finish. (94 pts.)
