WineStreet is a top five wine shop in the Twin Cities!  You will not find these deals or many of these wines elsewhere and if you do you will pay significantly more.  Brad Weiss is the owner and has been doing fine wine for decades and is one of the top guys on finding new and exciting wines in our market.  Fort Ross Sea Slopes is my find of the year!

2009 Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/4/2019)$24.95
Day 1: Garrique, red currants, tar and minerality. This is a complex wine and possesses a multilayered finish. Outstanding value at $25 a bottle. Not too many better!! 91 plus
Day 2: More intense than day 1. Garrique, damp earth, stone, dark currants and dark chocolate. Medium plus finish and really drinking well right now. 92 points (92 points) 2014 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/4/2019) $29.95 WOW!
Day 1: Not the over the top CDP that has been more frequent lately. Lighter in style with underbrush, wild game, spice, water chestnuts and stone. Short to medium finish and good acidity. I think day 2 and 3 could improve greatly. 90 points
Day 2: Hello! Nose is fantastic with floral, blue fruits, spice and stone. Palate is more intense than day 1 but still has really good acidity. Wild game, floral, blue fruits and stone. Medium plus finish and day 2 has improve my outlook on an already good day 1 showing. This should age for another decade at least. 92 points (92 points)

2014 Fort Ross “Sea Slopes” Pinot Noir $19.97 YES BUY!!!!!

2014 Sea Slopes Fort Ross Winery Pinot Noir – USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/11/2018)
Hennepin Lake Tasting 2018; 10/11/2018-10/14/2018 (Minneapolis, MN): Another great showing on this wine. The best Pinot for under $20 I have ever purchased although that was on sale. Meat, currants, earth and floral notes. Good acidity. Buy! (91 points) 2014 Sea Slopes Fort Ross Winery Pinot Noir – USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/5/2018)
Day 1: This is an excellent value. Under $20 for Pinot Noir at this level is rare. Meat, strawberries, floral and celery. While this is a shorter finish good acidity is present. Drinking well now but could age some. 91 points
Day 2: Drinking well with nice acidity. Sauvage, floral notes, strawberries, raspberries and minerals. Very balanced effort and as commented to someone today the best Pinot Noir under $20 I have ever tasted. 92 points
Day 3: Not as good but still solid. This is an amazing value for under $20.
Recommendation: This is drinking great right now so I would consume in the next couple years. This is the best Pinot I have purchased under $21 ever. (92 points)

2016 Fort Ross “Sea Slopes” Chardonnay $17.97

  • 2016 Sea Slopes Fort Ross Winery Chardonnay – USA, California, Sonoma County, Fort Ross – Seaview (11/24/2018)
Day 1: Similar to previous notes with lemon, shell, chalk and sour apple. On the palate picks up an orange peel characteristic. Short to medium finish with good acidity. 90 points
Day 2: Golden delicious apples, oak, lemon, chalk and orange peel rind. This is a little better on day 2 and is more enjoyable closer to room temperature.
Day 3: Similar to day 2. I would recommend letting this warm in the glass. Does not taste very good when served to cold which is what most restaurants serve their whites at.
Recommendation: Drink now to 2021. Serve this warmer than colder for maximum enjoyment. (90 points)

2009 Domaine De La Cote De L’ange Chateauneuf des Papes $24.97

  • 2009 Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (10/24/2018)
Day 1: This bottle is a bit better than the last which took time to develop. This is great right out of the gate with Garrique, raspberries, sour cherries, forest floor and white pepper. Good acidity and balanced wine. Classic, traditional CDP. 92 points
Day 2: Second time with this wine that it didn’t make it to day 3. It is that good and for $25 one of the best CDPs around! Garrique, earth, white pepper, red currants and sweet peppers. Balanced and delicious. 92 points
Recommendation: Drink now! I don’t see the point in holding this wine as it is drinking great now. (92 points)
  • 2009 Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (9/16/2018)
Day 1: Very much an Old School Effort! Sauvage, mushrooms, red currants and spice. On the palate picks up some nice rose petals and soy. Medium plus finish and good acidity. This is an amazing value!!! 92 points
Day 2: Even more intense with Garrique, spice, smoked sausage, more intense red currants and soy. Medium plus and more concentrated than day 1. This is a rock star for an amazing price! Old School in the House. 93 points
Day 3: Decline in quality. A bit sour on the finish and the fruit not nearly as vibrant. 85 points
Recommendation: No doubt this is drink sooner than later after seeing the steady decline on day 3. I would decant a few hours and enjoy. Drink now to 2020. (93 points)

  1. Thanks for letting me know about this. I used to go to WineStreets in Bloomington years ago but have never been up to North Oaks.

  2. I agree on the Sea Slopes Pinot. I had this in the fall and it is better than half of the Pinots from California in the $50 plus range.
