More Great Buys from Winestreet Spirits

Just when I broke my New Year’s resolution here is another reason to break it: Winestreet website.

Best prices I have ever seen on these wines:

2014 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/4/2019)
Day 1: Not the over the top CDP that has been more frequent lately. Lighter in style with underbrush, wild game, spice, water chestnuts and stone. Short to medium finish and good acidity. I think day 2 and 3 could improve greatly. 90 points
Day 2: Hello! Nose is fantastic with floral, blue fruits, spice and stone. Palate is more intense than day 1 but still has really good acidity. Wild game, floral, blue fruits and stone. Medium plus finish and day 2 has improve my outlook on an already good day 1 showing. This should age for another decade at least. 92 points
Day 3: Not as good as day 2 as it has lost some of the intensity. Certainly not bad and should have a long aging potential. Will revisit on day 4. 90 points
Day 4: Going with the rare day 4 review. Very similar to day 1 of all things with the lighter style. Spice, Garrique, wild game and mushrooms. Short to medium finish. 91 points
Recommendation: Buy this wine. Found it locally for $29.95. I would do a 4 hour decant if you want to drink now but I would cellar for 2 to 3 years at this point. (92 points) $32.50

2013 Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (1/18/2019)
Day 1: Nice overall. Menthol, vanilla, oak, cherry, blueberries and burnt toast. Medium plus finish. Outstanding 2013 effort. This on a pop and pour. Nice spice quality on the finish. Excellent value under $30. 92 points
Day 2: Menthol, vanilla, oak, chocolate, dark fruits and floral notes. Even better on day 2 and complex wine. Medium plus finish. This wine should age for another 5 years. 93 points (93 points) $27

2014 Trisaetum Pinot Noir Wichmann Dundee Estate – USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (1/18/2019)
Day 1: Excellent! Very fragrant and vibrant palate. This is my kind of Oregon Pinot Noir. Floral, spice, underbrush, subtle wood and cranberry. Very balanced and medium plus finish. On a pop and pour absolutely amazing. 93 points!
Day 2: Amazing nose of violets, strawberry, underbrush and cranberry. Palate is singing with underbrush, violets, cranberry and strawberry notes. Medium plus finish and great acidity. Really a wonderful wine. 93-94. Borderline on the 94 so we will go 93.8. (93 points) $27

2015 Bodegas Breca Garnacha Breca – Spain, Aragón, Calatayud (1/17/2019)
Day 1: Grabbed a bottle out of the closeout bins at Sid’s. Nice nose of earth, raspberries and dust. On the palate a touch of sweetness along with spice, crushed rock, dust and a floral note. The finish is a little harsh and is the only thing detracting from the experience. This represents a good value for the quality. If you just drink this and don’t think too much it is even better than 86. 86 points
Day 2: Better and for the price point means new everyday wine selection. Spices, floral, raspberries, flint and crushed rock. While a touch of sweet fruits on this wine it is balanced and extremely enjoyable. For $12.99 a bottle more please! 88 points (88 points) $12.97

2015 Liquid Farm Chardonnay La Hermana – USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (1/10/2019)
Day 1: Wow, great wine. Lemon, shells, stone fruit, orange peel and grassy note. Very complex wine and medium plus finish. Acidic but balanced. This is an outstanding value for $25 on sale at a local wine shop. Wow! 92 points
Day 2: Lemon, shells, tangerine, stone and flint. This is White Burgundy like and doesn’t have the heavy oak some of the Cali Chards feature. While not a long finish it still offers complexity. Going up to the shop that has this on sale and grabbing some more on Saturday. 92 points (92 points) $22.50
